About a month back, Lite FM had an announcement. The Lite FM RM60,000 Headhunt. When I saw this, I thought they were actually hiring. I kira-kira... that's 5k a month. Not too bad mar. So I thought.. I'll just apply and see if I can get an interview. And about a week back... I was listening to Lite FM. It was only then that I found out that the Headhunt was actually a radio game show. The rules are like this... They call the contestant at 9am and give you a topic to research. 30 minutes later, they call you again and ask you a question related to the topic. If you get it correct, you stay in the game and you win some cash. The amount of cash depends on the difficulty of the question. The cash winning ranges from RM100 to RM2000 (as far as I know). So basically... as long as you are correct, you'll get a topic and question which you will try to answer every hour from 9am - 6pm. The person with the longest winning streak wins an additional RM10,000 on top of his or her winnings.

So... On Wednesday afternoon, I get a call from Lite FM. The dude tells me that I have been selected to participate in the Headhunt Game. He told me that the DJ will call me either on Thursday or Friday. Sweet... I've never participated in any radio game shows before. As the game starts at 9 in the morning, I told myself I better get up early on Thursday so that I'll be ready and not in a blur state when I answer the phone.

Thursday morning... I set my alarm at 8. I wake up... shut my alarm off... and go back to bed. Fuck it... No assurance they'll call and I think I love sleep too much. My mum wakes me up at 11 ish. She wants to go for Fish Head Noodles in Damansara Kim. Well... my mum's stomach is more important than a game show. So I get up... take my bath and take my mum out for lunch. We do finish lunch pretty early and I am able to get back home by 1pm.

I sit my ass in my room the whole day. Chatting on msn and listening to the radio on Astro. I must say... I was getting pretty bored. I called Ah Chuan & Sam for snooker. Since it was already 4 ish, I didn't expect Lite FM to call. Mana tahu... when it was close to 5, I get a call from them. The guy tells me that the DJ is gonna call me in 15 minutes. As the broadcast is actually delayed by a few minutes, I already know that the contestant before me is gonna screw up on the next question and it'll be my turn.

True enough... the guy screws up. A few minutes later.. I get the call from Lite FM. My topic is sports. Cools... I love sports. I was sure I had this in the bag. 30 Minutes later, they call me up and ask me the question.

DJ Dude: In what sports do you use a "Sand Iron"?
Tiong : Huh? 10 Iron ar?
DJ Dude: No... Sand Iron. Pasir... Pasir...
Tiong : Er... I have no idea. I guess I'll have to go with golf.
DJ Dude: So is golf your final answer?
Tiong : Yeah... golf.
DJ Dude: Congrats... you have won yourself RM300.

Okays.. for me, that was fucking awsome. I just won Rm300 bucks chilling at home. It's already 6pm. I call Ah Chuan and tell him snooker is still on. Sam drives me there and we get to the snooker centre at 7. As Ah Chuan has not arrived yet, Sam and I start 1st. The DJ guy actually calls me when I'm in the midst of playing snooker.

DJ Dude: So Tiong.. I'm calling to see how you feel about winning RM300.
Tiong : Er.. I'm pretty happy about that.
DJ Dude: So... do you have any stratergy going into tomorrow's Headhunt?
Tiong : Er... Not really.
DJ Dude: You sound rather confident. I doubt you'll make it pass 4p.m.
Tiong : I guess I'll just have to prove you wrong.

I think I just fucked myself by saying that to him. I'm sure he must have made it his personal mission to make sure I fuck up the next day. I am usually humble. But when he said I won't pass 4pm, it triggered my self defence mechanism and I gave him the responce I would usually give. Anyways.. what's done is done lar. No matter what, I got 300 bucks easy. So I continue playing snooker.

I set my alarm for 8am. I can't really wake up. I was feeling really tired. maybe it's the hours and hours of snooker and the late night out. I wake up at 8.45, don't bother taking a bath as I'm afraid they'll call me. At 9 ish, I get a call from the DJ. My topic is the human body. They give me 40 mins to do my research. Honestly.. I didn't do much research. I spent most of the time asking people to listen to my manly voice on the radio. Most of the time, I was chatting with Sandy on MSN. So what I did was I used Google and Wiki to find topics related to the Human Body. Read a bit here and there. And I keep the pages open. At about 10, I get the call.

DJ Dude: Hi Tiong... I'm sure you have done your research... blah blah blah...
Tiong : Yeah... blah blah blah...
DJ Dude: This is a RM2k question... What is the biggest bone in the human arm?
Tiong : The Humerus.
DJ Dude: Congrats Tiong.. You have won RM2k. Woo Hoo... Yeeaahhh...
Tiong : Serious? Excellent... Excellent...

Okay... problem here was I didn't sound too excited. I was like Sweet.. Okay.. Excellent... And you know what... 10 minutes later, a guy from the station calls me. he says,"Tiong.. Would you mind sounding more excited... you know.. for the radio.. for the Headhunt game...". I was like oh.. okay... Har har... I think they had jus about enough of me.

Minutes later.. I get a call. The 3rd topic. It's food. Yeah.. food. I was thinking.. hey... I can mar. I love food. I love eating. And I eat everything. So I read a bit on food. But it's so wide. What the hell am I gonna read about? No worries.. just chill, relax and chat on MSN lar. And so.. I get the call...

DJ Dude: Where does the food Cassoulet originate from?
Tiong : Kasule?
DJ Dude: Yeah... Cassoulet.
Tiong : Er... I have no idea.. I'll have to go with Kenya.
DJ Dude: Tiong... you have been fired.

Fucks.. Damnit... Har har. I couldn't search for it. That's because I searched for Kasule. As you can see... they both sound the same. All I got on Google was something Kenya something. If you don't answer within 30 seconds, you get fired anyways. So I thought... what the heck, I'll just tembak. So.. screwed. Cassoulet is actually French for Casserole. The T is silent same as Chevrolet.

Well... guess I won't be able to get my hands on the RM10k grand prize. But RM2.3k for a 2 hour job seems pretty decent. Eh... RM2.3k for a 2 hour job is... Fucking Awesome. Hehehe... Overall a good experience. I must say, I really enjoyed this.
